Roaches Hill Race
The Roaches Hill Race is a fell race held on 8 November 2026 around Meerbrook and the Roaches ridge. The route is an out and back fell course of 15 miles with approximately 3,700 feet of ascent. The course is partly marked and local knowledge of the area is useful.
The event is run under FRA rules and requires competitors to carry at minimum a map, compass, whistle, full wet weather cover, hat and gloves. Emergency rations and water are advised.
Parking is available at Tittesworth Reservoir Car Park with a special event day rate of £3.00 pay and display; marshals issue race tickets. There is a 15 minute walk from that car park to Meerbrook Village Hall. Limited parking and toilets are available at the Village Hall and clothing can be left there. Changing is available in the hall. Free drinks and hot food are provided at the finish and cakes are available for sale. Competitors are asked to use the toilets at Tittesworth Car Park.
The route follows road, track and field sections via Frith Bottom to Roach House, across private land to Rockhall, along the ridge past the trig point to Roach End, down to Gradbach Forest and a river ford near the foot bridge. The course continues over private land toward Helmseley Farm, joins tracks at Tagsclough Hill, crosses the A54 and follows footpaths through fields to the Crag Inn in Wildboarclough before climbing to Shutlingsloe and returning to the Village Hall finish.
