Round Ripon Ultra

The Round Ripon Ultra is a 35 mile circular trail that starts and finishes in Studley Roger, Ripon, North Yorkshire (HG4 3AY). The undulating route follows the northern section of the Ripon Rowel and crosses trail, woodland and moorland within the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The finish runs downhill through Studley Royal deer park back into Studley Roger.

Race headquarters are in Studley Roger Village Hall. The hall provides free tea and coffee and toilet facilities. The route includes four staffed checkpoints with water, sweets and cake, additional savouries at some stops, and toilet facilities at Checkpoint 3 (about 19 miles).

Entry options and limits are stated for solo runners and relay teams. Entry fees are Solo £45.00 affiliated or £47.00 unaffiliated; Relay per team £75.00 affiliated or £85.00 unaffiliated. The event limit is 200 participants. Minimum ages are 20 years for individual runners and 17 years for relay team runners.

Competitors must carry equipment for the conditions, including a waterproof jacket, hat, gloves, emergency food and water, and a fully charged mobile phone with the race director’s number. The relay is run by teams of five; competitors may run multiple legs. Approximate distances between checkpoints are:

  • Start to CP1: 7.5 miles
  • CP1 to CP2: 7.8 miles
  • CP2 to CP3: 3.9 miles
  • CP3 to CP4: 8.3 miles
  • CP4 to finish: 7.5 miles

The event has a 10 hour time limit with progressive cutoffs at CP2 (4 hours), CP3 (5.5 hours) and CP4 (8.5 hours). Finishers of the full course receive a medal and T-shirt; relay team members receive a T-shirt. Prizes and trophies are awarded for top individual and team finishers.
