Rombald's Romp Fell Race

Rombald's Romp is a fell race organised by North Leeds Fell Runners. The course is roughly 8.1 miles with about 1,214 ft of ascent. The route starts and finishes on Keighley Road, about half a mile from Race HQ at the car park on Wells Road in Ilkley (GR SE117472 / LS29 9JE).

The terrain is mixed: rough rocky tracks, heathery paths, a forest section with wooden bridges and tree roots, and approximately one mile of road up the back of the moor. A recently cleared section of the forest may expose old tree roots that can be tricky underfoot. There are road sections with no closures, so runners should allow traffic to pass, especially near Bradup and the mast access.

This is an FRA race and runners must carry waterproof jacket with taped seams and attached hood, waterproof trousers, a hat and gloves; the organisers may relax rules if weather is good. Facilities are basic: no changing or showering facilities and toilets at White Wells about 200m from the start. First aid posts will be at the Start/Finish and at Whetstone Gate. There will be water on course at Whetstone Gate and finishers receive water and a bottle of beer. Competitors who withdraw should report to the finish so incidents do not trigger a mountain rescue call.

Prizes are planned for the first three men and first three women on both routes and for specified veteran categories, with only one prize per runner. Prize giving is held at the registration tent. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
