Trail Running in Trussville
The RDM Trail Race takes place on Cahaba Mountain, located at the edge of the Appalachian Mountain range foothills in Alabama. The event features two primary distances on a course comprised of technical single-track trails. Approximately 90% of the route is off-road, featuring various switchbacks, elevation changes, and terrain transitions.
The available distances include:
- 5 Mile loop featuring technical single-track trail sections with rocks and roots.
- 5K course that follows the main route while bypassing specific sections.
The start and finish lines are located at the Trussville Senior Citizens Center. Participants can choose to register for both distances separately to complete a combined total of approximately 8.5 miles. In this case, the 5 mile loop is completed first, and the participant is ranked within the 5 mile award category.
The course includes one aid station situated near the halfway point, with additional support available at the start and finish areas. Due to the presence of roots and rocks, trail shoes or hiking boots are recommended. The event is open to runners, ruckers, and hikers, with a total field limit of 150 competitors.
All participants receive a finisher's medal. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers in both distances, as well as the top two finishers in specific age divisions: Under 20, 21-35, 36-50, and Masters (50+).
