Rainow 5
The Rainow 5 is a small trail and fell race held on the first Wednesday in May. It uses a hilly 5 miles route around Rainow and Kerridge Ridge and is licensed and run under FRA rules. A GPX file of the route and historical route information are available.
From 2026 the event moved to pre-entry only via SiEntries with a race limit of 275 runners. Entrants must be at least 16 years old. Post-race cakes and low-key category prizes (typically a bottle of local beer) are part of the event and proceeds are donated to local organisations and charities, including Buxton Mountain Rescue, the Rainow Institute, Rainow pre-school, KRIV and Cheshire Wildlife Trust.
The race has been held since 1989. The first event in July 1989 was billed as the Rainow 4 Hill race to raise funds for the local playgroup. A 2 mile fun run for novice runners ran in the 1990s and continued until 1999, typically attracting around 20 to 30 participants. Participation recovered after the COVID hiatus, with 236 finishers reported and a high entry of 285 runners in 2023. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
