Rainbow: A Western NC Mountain Run
Rainbow is a trail running event in the Montreat Wilderness of Montreat, North Carolina, scheduled for March 13, 2027. The course uses creekside trails and access to the summit of Rainbow Mountain and passes an alpine lake.
The event is based on a loop course of about 4 miles per loop with roughly 900 feet of elevation gain per loop. Terrain includes steep inclines, rolling doubletrack, technical descents, stretches of broken pavement, and creekside singletrack. Participants choose between single, double, or triple loop options.
- Single Rainbow: one loop, about 4 miles
- Double Rainbow: two loops, about 8 miles
- Triple Rainbow: three loops, about 12 miles
Event amenities and features listed by the organizer include free parking at Anderson Auditorium, on-site bathrooms at Anderson Auditorium, one aid station at Race HQ providing water, Tailwind, soda and simple foods, a custom eco-friendly event shirt, a souvenir race bib, and a gold finisher coin. Prizes are awarded to the top three overall in male, female and nonbinary categories for each distance. The event is limited to the first 150 registrants and specifically asks participants to be self sufficient for shade, seating and extra nutrition. Pacers are not allowed on course.
The event directs additional registration donations to the Montreat Wilderness and operates recycling initiatives; it is cup free and safety pin free in recent years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
