Race Across Scotland 215 Mile
Race Across Scotland is a 215 mile (346 km) ultra-marathon that follows the Southern Upland Way from Portpatrick to Cockburnspath. The event lists total elevation gain of 7,218 m, a field limit of 250 places and a strict overall cut-off of 100 hours. Dates shown include early August 2026 and early August 2027.
The race operates with 12 staffed checkpoints along the route. Runners must be self-sufficient between checkpoints; refreshment points provide drinks and snacks and village halls may offer hot food. Support crews are permitted from Checkpoint 3 (Glentrool) onwards but access and parking are restricted at several locations; organisers allow one vehicle per runner at checkpoints where crew access is permitted.
Entry is by application only. Participants must be at least 20 years old on race day, demonstrate endurance/ultrarunning experience and be able to self-navigate with map and compass. Full kit checks are carried out at registration. Mandatory equipment includes a hardcopy Southern Upland Way map, waterproof coat and trousers, compass, charged mobile phone, headtorch and spare light source, survival bag, water container, emergency food rations and the GPS tracker provided by the event. The race is cupless so participants must bring their own drinking vessel.
Two dropbags are permitted with size and weight limits (max 56 x 45 x 25 cm and 7 kg) and will be transported to specified checkpoints and the finish. Live online tracking is used for course monitoring; official results are determined by race chip timing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
