ACORN Sandhead 10
The ACORN Sandhead 10 on 13 Sep 2026 is a ten mile multi‑terrain race covering the last ten miles of the Mull of Galloway Trail, running from Sandhead to Stranraer. The route uses coastal path, dunes and quiet back roads and finishes on the pier in Stranraer.
Runners start on the sands of Luce Bay, then climb onto dunes with coastal views. At about 5 km the route moves onto quiet back roads heading toward Stranraer, then crosses a few farm fields and descends through woodland. A short section follows the Southern Upland Way before the approach into Stranraer along Loch Ryan, past the old ferry terminal and marina and with a loop around Agnew Park.
The entry fee includes bus travel from Stranraer to Sandhead, on‑course water and snacks, finish line refreshments and snacks, a well marked and marshalled route, qualified first aid cover, support from race volunteers, a finishers goody bag and an eco‑medal. Podium prizes include vouchers and local Galloway cheese. Approximately £1 from each entry will be donated to Stranraer Youth Pantry and entrants can opt to donate to Better Lives Partnership.
Practical details: race numbers are issued at registration in Sandhead, a limited bag drop is provided, water stations are placed at roughly 5 km intervals, timing is manual and results are published to Acorn Trails channels. There is a four hour cut off; walking is permitted if the route can be completed within that time. The event has limited places and is currently on a waiting list.
