Race Across Scotland 215 mile (RAS215)
Race Across Scotland is a 215 mile (346 km) ultra-marathon that follows the Southern Upland Way from Portpatrick on the west coast to Cockburnspath on the east coast. The route crosses mountains, valleys and forests of the Southern Uplands and includes approximately 7,218 m of ascent. The event features live GPS tracking and 12 staffed checkpoints providing refreshments and, at village halls, hot food.
Entry is by application only and the event is limited to 250 places. Participants must meet qualifying criteria, be at least 20 years old on race day, have a solid background in endurance or ultrarunning and be able to self navigate with a map and compass. There is a strict 100 hour overall cut off. The listed entry fee starts from £799.
Runners must be self sufficient between checkpoints and carry mandatory kit at all times. The mandatory kit list includes a hardcopy Southern Upland Way map, waterproof coat and trousers, compass, headtorch and backup light, survival bag, water purification, emergency food rations and a GPS tracker provided by the organiser. Pacers and support runners are not permitted.
Support crews are allowed from Checkpoint 3 onwards but access and parking are restricted at many locations; one vehicle per runner is permitted and specific checkpoints must not be visited by supporters. Two dropbags per runner are permitted with maximum size and weight limits and are transported between specified checkpoints and the finish.
