Rab Pinnacle Ridge Extreme 2027
The Rab Pinnacle Ridge Extreme is a skyrace on 17 July 2027 around the Helvellyn Massif near Patterdale in the English Lake District. The route is 28 km with 2700 m ascent and includes technical ground, hands on rock sections and scrambling on exposed terrain.
The course follows steep ridgelines and technical lines typical of skyrunning. Several scrambles and steep descents require rock handling and climbing skills; climbing experience is a stated entry requirement. The event is organised by Lake District Sky Trails and runs as an offline mountain event in a UNESCO landscape.
Entry to the race uses a pre-selection and vetting process. Competitors must be at least 19 years old on race day. Applicants must describe recent relevant mountain running and scrambling experience. The organisers expect completion of several named mountain races or runs within the past five years of about 18 miles or 30 km or more and of similar severity; examples listed include Ennerdale Horseshoe, Glencoe Skyline and other long Lakeland rounds. Significant mountain experience or comparable enchainments and documented rock climbing or high grade solo scrambling experience are also required. No payment is taken at the pre-selection stage and applications are normally reviewed within 96 hours.
Included in the entry fee are a fully marked course, a post-race meal with vegan and gluten free options, a compostable finisher medal, GPS tracking and timing by Open Tracking, and a professional mountain qualified safety team.
