About the race

The Prairie Spirit Trail event in Ottawa, KS, offers multiple distances on a rails-to-trails corridor that passes through several small towns. Runners follow an out and back course that begins in Ottawa and travels south to distance-specific turnaround points, then returns to the finish in Ottawa. The trail surface is primarily crushed limestone with asphalt sections through town areas.

The courses are USATF certified and record eligible. Manned and unmanned aid stations are located roughly every 5 miles, with no distance greater than a little over 9 miles between manned aid stations. Manned stations provide water, electrolyte drink, snack foods, soup and sandwiches, and all manned stations have drop bag access. The course is easily accessible to crew.

Pacers are permitted for the second half of all events. Finishers receive unique, distance-specific belt buckles or medals. Additional event amenities include fully stocked aid stations, post race meals for participants, complimentary race photos after the event, and shirts and hoodies available for purchase with pre-pay available through February 28, 2026. Race headquarters and packet pick-up are at Celebration Hall, 1737 South Elm, Ottawa, KS.

Primitive camping and parking are available on the grass lot across from Celebration Hall. Awards include distance-specific awards and overall male and female awards for each race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
