Kansas Rails to Trails Extravaganza - Ottawa, KS
The Kansas Rails to Trails Extravaganza is a multi-distance trail event on the Prairie Spirit Trail with start and finish at Celebration Hall in Ottawa, Kansas. Distances offered include:
- 100 Miler
- 100K
- 50 Miler
- 50K
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
Routes are primarily on crushed limestone with short sections of asphalt through small towns. The longer distances begin with brief out-and-back segments before heading south to designated turnarounds and returning to Ottawa; shorter distances start on the trail and head to their own turnarounds before returning. The courses are USATF certified and record eligible.
Aid stations are provided approximately every 5 miles, with no stretch greater than a little over 9 miles between manned stations. Manned stations offer water, electrolyte drink and snack-type foods including soup and sandwiches, and all manned stations have drop bag access. Unmanned stations provide water only. Pacers are allowed for approximately the last half of the event.
Time limits and cutoffs apply by distance, and finishers within the designated time limits receive distance-specific belt buckles or medals; first overall male and female in each race receive overall awards. Packet pick-up and drop-bag drop-off occur at Celebration Hall the day before and on race morning per the event booklet. Entry fees span a range in USD and registration closes prior to the event date. Primitive camping near Celebration Hall is available and local hotels are within a short drive.
