Kansas Rails-to-Trails Extravaganza : Ottawa, KS
The Kansas Rails-to-Trails Extravaganza is a multi-distance trail event held on the Prairie Spirit Trail with start and finish at Celebration Hall in Ottawa, KS. Distances offered include:
- 100 Miler
- 100K
- 50 Miler
- 50K
- Marathon
- 1/2 Marathon
The course runs primarily on crushed limestone with short sections of asphalt through small towns. Several distances use a short out-and-back before heading to a turnaround town and returning to Ottawa. Aid stations are placed approximately every 5 miles; manned stations provide water, electrolyte drink and snack-type foods, and unmanned stations provide water only. Manned aid stations will have drop bag access. Crew access is generally straightforward, and pacers are allowed for roughly the final half of the longer events.
All finishers who complete their registered distance within the time limits receive a date- and distance-specific custom belt buckle or medal. First overall male and female finishers in each race will receive an overall award.
Race headquarters and packet pickup take place at Celebration Hall. Lodging options are available in Ottawa within a 10 to 15 minute drive of the staging area, and primitive camping or vehicle parking is permitted on the grass lot across from Celebration Hall.
The event does not offer refunds; instead it issues race credit to the original registrant on a sliding scale. Credits are valid for two years and are transferable one time to other events within the same series. Runners who start but do not finish are listed as DNF for their registered distance, and deviation from the marked course may result in penalties or disqualification.
