Pi Day River Rotation
Pi Day River Rotation is a trail race event in Lawrence, KS on March 14, 2027, organized by the Lawrence Trail Hawks. Races start at the Levee gate and take place on the Lawrence River Trails, which are relatively flat singletrack with a few short hills, flowy sections, and only a few roots or rocks. Courses follow established Race Loop, 4 Corners, and 5K Loop routes and turnarounds are marked with permanent signage and race-day flags.
Distances offered include:
- Pi Miler : 3.14 miles on the 5K Loop
- River Rotation Half Marathon : three loops on the trail
- 16.24 Miler Pi Slam : combination of the Pi Miler and the Half Marathon
The Half Marathon consists of three loops: a Race Loop run counterclockwise, the Race Loop run clockwise, and the 4 Corners Loop. Aid stations provide water, electrolytes, energy snacks, and fruit; a smaller aid station is near the 5K turnaround and a larger aid station is at the trailhead. Runners are encouraged to bring reusable hydration bottles or cups. If trails are unsafe or vulnerable to damage, an alternate course on the packed gravel Levee Trail may be used.
Awards are given for first through third place by gender in the Pi Miler and Half Marathon; Pi Slam finishers receive a special item and are eligible for place awards. Participants receive pie at the finish and a finisher's fork. The event enforces safety and etiquette rules including adult supervision requirements for minors, leashed dogs, and respectful behavior. Packet pickup and volunteer details will be announced before the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
