About the race
PhoMo 50K is a trail ultramarathon held in the Phoenix Mountain Preserves on December 12, 2026. The event starts and finishes at Shadow Rock Church (12861 N 8th Ave, Phoenix, AZ) and is organized by GhostHead Productions. The field is limited to 50 runners and crew.
The course is not marked on the ground; participants receive GPX coordinates for navigation. Trails are rocky and often technical, with about 5,500+ feet of elevation gain and very little shade. Aid stations are planned at the top parking lot of Piestewa Peak trailhead and the Dreamy Draw trailhead ramada for the out-and-back sections. Water fountains and restrooms are available at Dreamy Draw Trailhead, North Mountain Visitor Center, and Piestewa Peak Drive. Runners should carry their own calories and water at all times; a hydration vest is recommended. Crew access and pacers are allowed at the listed trailheads, and pacers may start from Piestewa Peak trailhead.
Event logistics include free parking and a porta potty at the church, manual timing with required check in at Dreamy Draw on both passes, planned training runs and a packet pick up and shake out run on December 10 at a location to be determined, and a registration closing date of December 4, 2026. All participants receive commemorative PhoMo hat and additional swag if registered before December 23, 2026. The event will take place rain or shine and there are no refunds or credits for cancellations.
