Petzl Night Runner Rivington - 16th January 2027

The event is a night trail run at Rivington with a "close encounters" theme linked to local UFO sightings and the radio masts on Winter Hill. The course is marked with reflective signs and runners use head torches or hand-held torches to light the way.

Terrain at Rivington is rough, boggy and rocky and can be difficult in daylight. Road shoes are not adequate; entrants are advised to use trail or fell type shoes with an aggressive tread. As the event takes place in winter, warm clothing is recommended and participants are advised to carry or wear a wind or waterproof jacket.

Distances offered:

  • Half Marathon
  • 10k
  • Free 1k kids event with medals for all finishers

Minimum age for the Half Marathon and 10k is 16 years on the day. The kids 1k is free for young children whose parents take part in the main races. The venue is Rivington and Blackrod High School, Rivington Lane, Bolton BL6 7RU.

Entry includes a glow in the dark finisher's medal, free car parking and electronic timing. Discounted entry is available for the first 100 entries: 10k £32, Half Marathon £39. General entry prices are 10k £34 and Half Marathon £42. Entries close at 12 noon on the Friday prior or when the event fills. Route previews are available on Strava and event photographs are provided free to download. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
