Penshaw 10K
The Penshaw 10K is part of the Urban Trails series organised by Trail Outlaws and takes place on the trails around Penshaw Monument and the River Wear, based at Herrington Country Park. The event distance is 10 km on an undulating trail route with an elevation gain of about 830 ft and a descent of about 702 ft. The route is fully marked and marshalled, but competitors retain responsibility for their own navigation.
Support on the course includes a checkpoint at 5 miles offering water and sweets, with water available at the finish. Medical cover is provided at the checkpoint and at the start/finish area, including a paramedic and ambulance; first aid equipment is available for minor injuries. The race has a strict overall cut off and must be completed within two hours.
Entry benefits listed include a bespoke medal, electronic timing and instant online results provided by TOTS, free event parking, digital event photography and the option to purchase a race t-shirt. Awards are offered for first male and female finishers and for age-category winners. Mandatory kit specifies shoes suitable for the ground conditions. Event rules require bib visibility, logging with marshals at checkpoints, adherence to cut offs, no littering and restrictions on dogs and amplified speakers. Earphones may be used but must be removed at road crossings, checkpoints and when requested by marshals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
