Pendle Way In A Day

Pendle Way In A Day is a winter trail endurance event in East Lancashire held on the Pendle Way in the South Pennines. The event is fully waymarked and runs on trails, farmland and moorland, with the route starting and finishing at Barley Village Hall in Barley, Pendle. The event is open to both runners and walkers.

There are two route options offered. The full circular route covers approximately 45 miles with about 6100 ft of ascent (68.7 km, 1848 m). An alternative route of roughly 30 miles with about 4406 ft of ascent is also offered (46 km, 1343 m).

Checkpoints are positioned along the routes and carry water, biscuits and a first aid kit. One checkpoint at Higham Village Hall provides hot food and drinks. Entrants must be self sufficient for clothing and food and should carry appropriate equipment for the weather. Each checkpoint has a closure time and any entrant arriving after the closing time will be asked to retire so that all participants can be accounted for.

Digital mapping, written instructions and OS map coverage for the Pendle Way are provided or made available to participants. The route climbs to and descends from Pendle Hill and passes through villages including Barrowford, Earby, Laneshawbridge, Reedley and Higham.
