Peak District Challenge 2026
The Peak District Challenge is a walking and running event for individuals and teams held overnight on Friday 18 September and on Saturday 19 September 2026. All routes start and finish in Hathersage, postcode S32 1DU.
Distances available include:
- Copper: 25 km circular route from Hathersage to Baslow and back via Curbar.
- Bronze: 50 km, 1200 m ascent, 12 hour finishing target.
- Silver: 75 km, 2000 m ascent, 24 hour finishing target, includes night travel.
- Gold: 100 km, 3200 m ascent, 24 hour finishing target, requires self navigation.
- 100 miles: 100 miles, 4800 m ascent, 24 hour finishing target, tight cutoff requires 7 kph or more.
The event encourages team entries, with 3 to 5 people suggested as an ideal team size. Experienced solo and duo entrants are allowed if they can demonstrate sufficient walking and navigation experience at registration. External personal support such as private pacers or crews is not permitted; entrants may use facilities that are available to everyone.
Mountain Leaders from a professional provider will lead groups on the Copper and Bronze routes and on the overnight section of the Silver route. Silver challengers must self navigate during daylight hours and Gold challengers must self navigate throughout. For 25 km and longer distances each team receives a GPS tracker that continuously monitors progress.
Entry fees vary by distance and reflect event costs, from £61 for 25 km up to £99 for 100 miles. The fee covers qualified leaders, GPS trackers for eligible distances, checkpoints with drinks and snacks approximately every 10 km, printed route guides and GPX files, drop bag care for longer distances, a stew supper on return, a goody bag, and a modest prize pool.
