About the race
Old Baldy is a trail race held on the Old Baldy Trail just south of Spearfish, South Dakota, with the trailhead accessed from McGuigan Road/FSR 134 (Tinton Rd).
The race covers a single course of 7.75 miles over rugged Black Hills terrain. The route follows forested paths and rolling hills and offers views near the summit of Old Baldy.
Registration is available online only and must be completed before the event; there is no race-day registration. There is a registration fee for the main race, and participants 16 and under register free (no swag included). BHRC members can receive a discounted entry by entering their member ID during checkout. Parking at the trailhead is limited; carpooling is recommended. There will be no aid station on course, so participants should carry their own water.
After the run, participants are offered French toast sticks, sausage links, and an assortment of snacks and drinks. Directions from I-90 in Spearfish: take Exit 8, head south on Old Belle Fourche Rd/McGuigan Rd, then turn right onto FSR 134/Tinton Rd and continue for about 13 miles to the trailhead on the right.
