Ode to Laz Michigan Backyard Ultra

The Ode to Laz Michigan Backyard Ultra is a Last Person Standing backyard ultra held in Holly, Michigan on July 17, 2027. The event is organized by The Ode Races and is affiliated with Big's Backyard, so on-site results count toward at-large championship consideration.

Runners repeat a loop course as long as they wish, must be standing at the start line each hour to begin the next lap, and must complete each lap within the hour without outside assistance. Contestants provide their own aid; pacers are not permitted. Crew are allowed and may leave and return. Virtual entrants are not eligible for prizes or at-large qualifications.

Packet pickup occurs race morning at assigned starting areas; assignments are communicated before the race. Overnight parking for one vehicle is available for full event entrants at the start/finish venue. Camping is available at McGinnis campground in the north half of Holly State Recreation Area. Water is provided on site; glass containers are prohibited and alcohol is permitted. No hiking poles and no headphones are allowed on the trails.

Distances and course details:

  • 4.167 mile trail loop, about 350 feet of climbing, two thirds technical single track
  • 4.167 mile night loop, out and back to Fisherman’s Bridge, about 250 feet of climbing

Prizes are given to on-site runners at check-in; the last runner standing receives a free individual entry to an Ode race for the following 12 months. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
