About the race
The Ode to Laz Michigan Backyard Ultra is a Last Person Standing backyard ultra held July 17, 2027 in Holly, MI at 5000 McGinnis Rd. The event is organized by The Ode Races and follows the traditional Big's Backyard format.
Racing uses a repeated 4.167-mile loop. Each lap must be completed within an hour and contestants must be at the start line each hour to begin the next lap. The main trail loop is roughly 4.167 miles with about 350 feet of climbing, two thirds technical single track, one third moderate walking path, and a few hundred yards of pavement. A night out-and-back loop to Fisherman’s Bridge is also used; that road loop has about 250 feet of climbing.
Practical information: packet pickup occurs race morning at assigned starting areas. Contestants must carry their own aid; pacers are not permitted but crew are allowed. Parking for one vehicle overnight is available for full-event entrants; McGinnis campground offers tent and RV camping nearby. Water is provided and bathrooms are located along the course. Rules note no hiking poles and no headphones on trails. Virtual entrants are not eligible for prizes or at-large backyard rankings.
Prizes for on-site runners include a selected gift at check-in, a champion’s varsity jacket for the winner, race-entry credit for the winner, and discounted entries for assists. Entry fees are listed between $76.86 and $141.93. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
