Ode in the Snow 8 Hours of Ode
This trail event in Holly, MI offers multiple race formats on the Ode to Laz 4.167 mile loop. Options include fixed-distance races, an on-site timed 8 hour format and a virtual 8 hour option. Participants may run continuously for distance or use the "Backyard" format, starting a new lap every 60 minutes and switching to continuous at any time; once a runner switches to continuous they remain in that division.
The loop has roughly 450 feet of climbing, is about two thirds technical single track and one third moderate walking path, with a few hundred yards of pavement. The 5k and 10k use the same course with an out-and-back section removed and a later u-turn near the stair climb.
On-site logistics and rules: no chip timing. Contestants provide their own aid; crew is permitted. Pacers are not allowed except for continuous runners who exceed ten laps. No hiking poles, dogs or strollers; no headphones on trails. Traction aids are advised for winter conditions and a headlamp or carry light is required on the trail after dusk. Alcohol is permitted but glass containers are prohibited. Water and coffee are provided. Canopies and small personal camp setups near the start/finish are allowed with size limits; camping is available in the park campgrounds, not in the start/finish area.
Prizes include race medals for 5k, 10k and 4.17 mile finishers, collectible mugs for ultra finishers, and entry prizes into Ode to Laz Backyard races for certain on-site distance winners. Virtual winners are judged by outdoor distance covered in eight hours with GPS evidence. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
