NipMuck Trail Marathon

The NipMuck Trail Marathon is an off-road running event organized by the Shenipsit Striders in Ashford, Connecticut. The event takes place on a portion of the Nipmuck Trail, utilizing a 26.4 mile course that features a variety of natural terrain including rocks, roots, mud, and wooden bridges.

The course follows a specific out-and-back structure starting at the corner of Lipps Road and Perry Hill Road. Participants run south for 6.2 miles to Route 44 before returning to the start point. From there, the route heads north for 7 miles to Boston Hollow Road and returns once more to the finish line at Perry Hill Road. Due to the elevation and distance of the northern section, approximately 60% of the total race time is typically spent on the second half of the course.

Participants can choose from the following distance options:

  • 26.4 mile individual marathon
  • Two-person marathon relay

The marathon relay option allows teams of two to split the distance, with each runner completing half of the course. This format is open to pairs of various skill levels and those who prefer a team experience.

The event is part of the Blue-Blazed Trail Running Series. To ensure participant safety and logistical management, time cut-offs are enforced at the 12.4-mile mark and the 19.4-mile mark, with an overall course time limit of eight hours. Race shirts are available for purchase as an optional add-on during the registration process if ordered by the mid-September deadline. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
