NipMuck Trail Marathon
The NipMuck Trail Marathon takes place on October 4, 2026 in Ashford, CT. The event is organized by the Shenipsit Striders, a nonprofit trail running club founded in 1975 that supports Connecticut trail stewardship and land use programs.
Race options include:
- 26.4 mile NipMuck Trail Marathon
- Relay for teams of two splitting the course
The race follows a 13 mile segment in the middle of the 36 mile Nipmuck Trail and starts at the corner of Perry Hill Road and Lipps Road in Ashford. The marathon route runs south about 6.2 miles to Route 44 and back to the start, then north about 7 miles to Boston Hollow Road and back to the finish at Perry Hill Road. The course surface includes rocks, roots, mud, and wood bridges. Runners typically spend about 60% of their time in the second half of the race because that section contains more hills and slightly more distance.
Course cutoffs are given as durations: reach the midpoint at about 12.4 miles within 3 hours 15 minutes, reach the second turnaround at about 19.4 miles within 5 hours 20 minutes, and finish the race within 8 hours. Race shirts are available as an add on during registration or afterward, and shirt orders must be placed before September 12. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
