New Hope Turkey Trot
New Hope Christian School in Smithville, Missouri will hold the New Hope Turkey Trot on November 26, 2026. The event is a self-timed fundraiser for the school; all proceeds will help offset operational expenses and provide tuition assistance for families.
The course begins on the former Julia Bargman Memorial Cross Country course and follows a treeline where deer sightings are common. Several Nature Knowledge stations are located along that section. Participants continuing for the full distance run through a seasonal campground on asphalt, cross the spillway, and enter gravel and dirt trails around Lake Remote where tree roots, rocks, and uneven terrain are present. Bald eagle sightings are possible in November. The route includes the course's largest hill followed by a technical descent, then a stretch along the Little Platte river bank before returning to the spillway and the finish.
This event is held at the Smith's Fork recreation area with parking near the soccer and baseball fields and overflow parking at Grace Community Church across MO Hwy DD. Participants registered by November 21st will receive a t-shirt and finisher's medal. T-shirts will be silk screen prints designed and printed by students in the New Hope Christian School Art and Printmaking classes. Children 5 and under may participate for free. Runner packets and t-shirts (if registered by the deadline) may be picked up on Wednesday, November 25th between 4:00PM and 6:00PM at the Smithville United Methodist Church.
