Mt. Tom Trail Race

The Mt. Tom Trail Race is held on October 24, 2026 at Bray Lake within DCR Mt. Tom State Park. The event offers multiple distances on rugged single-track hiking trails entirely inside the state park.

  • 25k solo - about 13.5 miles, ~3,300 ft climbing
  • 2-person 25k relay - legs of roughly 7.4 miles and 6.1 miles, climbing split between runners
  • 10k - ~1,400 ft climbing
  • 5k fun run/hike - ~600 ft climbing

Aid stations are provided at minimum every five miles and will offer water, energy drink, soda, and typical race foods; hot soup may be available if colder weather is expected. Medical support from Holyoke EMT crews will be based at Bray Lake, and aid station volunteers have communications with the start/finish area.

The race starts and finishes at Bray Lake; parking is limited. Relay crew access and the exchange zone are at the Upper Pavilion Lookout Aid Station, and relay teams must transport themselves to and from that location. Check in is one hour before each event at Bray Lake. Entry fees vary by distance and increase on September 1; partial or full fee support is available on request without justification if funds exist.

Proceeds support Kestrel Land Trust and its conservation and public access projects in the Connecticut River Valley, including work on Mt. Tom access and nearby park restorations. Runners should prepare for variable late fall New England conditions and technical, potentially slick terrain. Race rules ask runners to notify an official if stopping, discourage headphone use per USATF, allow poles, and welcome athletes with disabilities under general AWD guidelines. Prizes and age group awards are planned for solo and relay events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
