2027 Mount Sparta - Last Spartan Standing
The event takes place June 26 to June 27, 2027 at Riverside Farm in Pittsfield, Vermont. It features two distinct endurance formats run on the same course and terrain known as the Death Race Stone Stairs.
Race options:
- Mount Sparta Challenge - 24 hour challenge to complete as many loops as possible.
- Last Spartan Standing - repeated elimination format with timed loops.
Last Spartan Standing requires participants to complete a full ascent and descent of the stone stairs to Shrek's Cabin every 45 minutes. Each loop is approximately 2 miles with about 970 feet of elevation gain. Failure to complete a loop within the 45 minute window or failure to appear at the start corral when the bell sounds results in immediate elimination.
If a participant is eliminated from Last Spartan Standing they may continue in the standard 24 hour challenge category. An eliminated result in Last Spartan Standing is recorded as a DNF; continuing runners may still earn a finisher medal in the 24 hour category but are ineligible for podium placements in Last Spartan Standing.
The Last Spartan Standing winner is the final runner who completes a loop when no other participant answers the bell; that person must then complete one final solo loop to claim the title. The event lists 45 minute laps, 970 feet of gain per loop, and up to 32 loops possible in 24 hours. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
