About the race
The Mourne Way Marathon Events return in 2027 as a set of trail races that follow the Mourne Way through mountain terrain, forest tracks and open countryside around Newcastle, Northern Ireland. For 2027 the routes are run in the opposite direction to previous years, so climbs, descents and scenery are experienced from a different perspective.
The event layout for 2027 is revised as follows: the Ultra Marathon and the Marathon both start and finish in Newcastle, while the ½ Marathon starts higher in the mountains at Fofanny Car Park and finishes in Newcastle. For the ½ Marathon participants travel from Newcastle to Fofanny Car Park by event bus before beginning the route back to Newcastle. The Marathon route turns at Fofanny Car Park and then retraces back towards Newcastle. The Ultra Marathon route turns at Rostrevor and replaces the Long Road section at Spelga with a route over Speltha Mountain.
