Mourne Way Marathon Events THE OTHER WAY 2027
The Mourne Way Marathon Events for 2027 run the established Mourne Way route in the opposite direction to previous years. The change in direction affects how climbs, descents and views are experienced along the trail. The overall course includes mountain trails, forest tracks and open countryside across the Mourne Mountains.
Event layout for 2027 distinguishes the three main distances:
- Ultra Marathon: starts and finishes in Newcastle
- Marathon: starts and finishes in Newcastle
- ½ Marathon: starts at Fofanny Car Park and finishes in Newcastle
For the ½ Marathon, participants travel from Newcastle to Fofanny Car Park to begin high in the mountains and then follow the Mourne Way back to Newcastle. The Marathon route turns at Fofanny Car Park and retraces the same route back towards Newcastle. The Ultra Marathon also starts and finishes in Newcastle and has a revised section that turns at Rostrevor; it no longer uses the Long Road section at Spelga and instead goes over Speltha Mountain.
