Morland 'Marathon'
The Morland 'Marathon' is a trail ultra held in Morland near Penrith. The advertised distance is 30 miles with approximately 3000 ft of ascent. The course is largely off-road on mixed terrain and runs through the Eden Valley along the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with views toward the Pennines to the east and the Howgills to the south. The route description mentions stone circles, waterfalls, lower fells, cairns, rivers, meadows and historic villages.
The event is fully tracked and includes four checkpoints offering water and snacks. Entry includes a finishers medal and there is an option to purchase a finishers tee for £10. A relay entry option is available and parking is provided at the event location, which uses Morland Village Hall CA10 3AS as the start and finish point. The organisers permit walkers and support runners provided they can complete the course within a 12 hour cut off. Dogs are allowed but must be on a lead in livestock areas and on a short lead at the start. First aid is available on the day and the event holds a race permit. The organisers state an environmental policy to avoid single use plastics and offer an option to plant a tree through a partner scheme. Minimum entry age is 20 on race day.
