MMT Training Academy Run 2: Elizabeth Furnace to Camp Roosevelt

This training run covers the middle third of the Massanutten Mountain Trail, going from the Signal Knob parking lot near Elizabeth Furnace to the Camp Roosevelt parking area. The course distance is 30.3 miles with total ascent of 6,200 feet and total descent of 5,500 feet.

The route includes two gravel road sections between Shawl and Veach Gaps and between Indian Grave and Habron Gap. Outside those sections the trail is described as generally runnable, and two staffed aid stations are located at Veach Gap (8.5 miles) and Habron Gap (21.1 miles).

Entry opens on Monday January 4, 2027 at 9:00 am and is limited to 65 runners. A GPX file and a turnsheet are provided for the route.

The event notice states that no medical personnel or medical supplies are provided along the course, at aid stations, or at the finish. Participants are responsible for their own health and safety. Organizers will attempt to get local emergency personnel to an injured runner if needed, but events take place in remote areas where medical care may be distant or delayed.
