Mantario Marathon : Whiteshell, MB, September 26–27, 2026

The Mantario Marathon is a two day stage event held on the Mantario Trail in Whiteshell, Manitoba. The route covers 64 km in total, typically split into two legs of about 32 km with an overnight campsite at Moosehead Lake.

Held since 1980 on the last full weekend in September, the event is a Fat Ass style run: no entry fee, no aid stations, no event staff and no organized services. Participants are fully self supported and must carry all gear needed for two days, including food, shelter, clothing, navigation and emergency equipment. The trail is not marked by organizers; competitors must follow the Mantario Trail using a trail map, compass and a downloaded GPX file.

The route passes through boreal forest and Canadian Shield terrain, includes numerous water crossings, and involves more than 1500 metres of total ascent and descent. The trail is often wet and slippery and can be difficult to follow; losing contact with the trail is common. Camping is wilderness camping with no services.

Event rules emphasize self sufficiency, assisting others in need, packing out all garbage, and prohibiting burning of waste. Registration closes September 20, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
