Machen Mountain Race

Machen Mountain Race is a single-route fell race near Machen that covers 7 km with approximately 365 m of ascent (about 4.3 miles / 1200 ft). The event is next scheduled for Monday 31st August 2026.

Registration is at Machen Welfare Ground on Tyn-Y-Waun Road, Machen CF83 8LA; competitors are asked to park in the recreation ground for registration. The start and finish are on Church Street, the road with the Machen Stores mini supermarket on the corner. Entry on the day only carries a fee of £7. The event is open to adults over 18.

The course is typical fell terrain: steep, loose, uneven and unpredictable underfoot. Entrants should use footwear suitable for slippery conditions, preferably trail or fell shoes. The race director will assess conditions on the day and may require runners to carry a windproof running jacket; in exceptionally severe weather windproof leggings may also be required.
