About the race

Lord of the Hill is a Last Person Standing race held at Lord Hill Regional Park in Monroe, Washington. The event uses a short loop course of 0.8 mile with 233 ft of gain concentrated in a single, steep climb. The loop starts beside an old quarry, moves into the long climb to the summit, follows downhill switchbacks through trees, and finishes with a brief final rise.

Laps begin at a set time allowance and shrink as the event progresses: the first lap allows 18 minutes, then the lap time decreases by 60 seconds each round until a 15 minute lap, after which successive laps decrease by 30 seconds. The last racer to complete a full lap within the prescribed lap time is declared Lord of the Hill. If no one completes the final lap in time, the fastest time from the previous lap determines the winner.

Each participant receives a custom canvas banner used to mark active competitors. The winner receives a custom 3D printed crown during a short coronation. Water stations are provided at the start line and at the top of the hill. T-shirts are available as an add-on and additional merchandise may be offered onsite.

Parking is available in the park south lot. Trails at the park are shared with hikers, bikers and potentially horses. October weather in western Washington can be cold, rainy and blustery; costumes in the event medieval theme are encouraged. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
