Lewes Downland 5 and 10 Mile Trail Runs
The Lewes Downland Trail Runs are held annually on the first Sunday in October, starting from Landport Bottom Meadow north of Lewes. The event offers off road routes that use trails around Blackcap and Mount Harry on the South Downs. Surfaces include chalk tracks, flint and grass tracks, and woodland paths.
Distances
- 5 mile route: loop from Blackcap via Mount Harry, includes undulating terrain.
- 10 mile route: GPS measured, visits quieter parts of the Sussex Downs and Ashcombe Bottom.
The races are licensed by the Trail Running Association on behalf of UK Athletics. The 10 mile race forms part of the Sussex Grand Prix. Age limits apply: entrants must be 17 or older for the 10 mile race and 16 or older for the 5 mile race. The 10 mile event has a two hour forty five minute course cut-off; support and recorded finishing times cannot be guaranteed after that limit.
Race headquarters is at Wallands Primary School with registration, entries on the day, changing areas, toilets, a bag drop (no dedicated security), a refreshments stall, and post race results and awards. Entry prices include the online administration fee; unaffiliated runners pay an additional insurance charge. Advance entry is cheaper and swaps or transfers are accepted up to the standard entry deadline.
Organisers aim to reduce waste by avoiding plastic cups, using biodegradable or paper cups, encouraging reusable bottles, and providing recycling for empties and packaging. Maps and past results are available for download. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
