Last of the Felascans

Last of the Felascans is a Backyard Ultra event held at San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park in Alachau, Florida. The race follows a specific format where participants must complete a 4.167-mile loop every hour. Runners who fail to finish a loop within the one-hour timeframe are eliminated. The event continues until only one participant remains; the winner is the person who completes a final loop that no other competitor finishes. If no single runner outlasts the others, no winner is declared.

The course terrain varies depending on the time of day. During daylight hours, participants run on park trails. After dark, the route shifts to a dirt road. There is no pavement on either the day or night course. The distance of each "yard" or loop is calculated so that a runner completes 100 miles over a 24-hour period.

Event logistics and rules include:

  • Backyard Ultra: 4.167-mile loop every hour
  • Last One Standing: One winner or no winner format

Runners are permitted a maximum 10'x10' area at the start/finish line to set up a base camp. There are no aid stations along the course, and no assistance is allowed once a loop has started. Water and bathrooms are available at the start/finish area. Competitors receive a whistle notification at three, two, and one minute before each loop begins. Participants must be in the starting corral and begin running exactly when the bell rings to avoid disqualification. Registration includes a shirt, and the final winner receives a trophy.
