Lakeland Trails Marathon and associated races

The event takes runners on a fully marked, marshalled circuit of Coniston Water using footpaths and bridleways. The courses pass Tarn Hows and Beacon Tarn and offer panoramic views of Coniston Water and nearby peaks Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags. The terrain is mainly hard packed trail with occasional muddy sections and some short road links where runners should keep to the right.

Distances on offer include:

  • Marathon
  • Half Marathon
  • Mini-Marathon 10k
  • Stretch Trail 5k
  • Children's Fun Trails for under 12s

Water and feed stations are provided at Oxen Fell, Tarn Hows exit, High Cross, Water Yeat and Sunny Bank, supplying water, flat coke and a selection of sweet and savoury snacks. Runners are asked to bring a reusable cup because cups are not provided at water stations. For safety, dogs are not allowed on the running courses and in-ear headphones are prohibited; bone-conductor devices are permitted. Event medics and radio communications support the course and a large team of marshals and stewards marshal the routes.

The venue is Coniston Sports and Social Centre and the event village includes food and drink stalls, a PA for race commentary, event merchandise and photographers with event photos published after the day. Parking follows postcode LA21 8AL; charges apply for standard vehicles with free parking for cars carrying four or more people. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
