Lakeland Trails in Helvellyn
The event is based in Glenridding on the shores of Ullswater and uses footpaths and bridleways into the foothills of Helvellyn. Routes pass through ancient woodlands and offer elevated views of Ullswater and the surrounding fells.
Distances offered include:
- 5 km Helvellyn Sport Trail
- 10 km Helvellyn Trail Run
- 15 km Helvellyn Trail Race
- 15 km Helvellyn Trail Challenge
All courses are well marked and marshalled. Terrain is mainly scenic trails with short sections of tarmac; underfoot conditions are generally good for those used to off road running but can be tricky in places. Some gates on course may be closed so runners should close gates after use. There is a road crossing close to the finish where marshals cannot stop traffic. In ear headphones are not permitted but bone conductor headphones are allowed. Dogs are not allowed on the course.
On the day registration is at the main marquee and race numbers must be collected on race day. Baggage storage is adjacent to the marquee. There are no entries on the day and entries are not transferrable. Car parking is cash only at King George V Fields with a parking fee payable to the venue; camper vans must use the main pay and display car park. Public transport serves Glenridding on the Stagecoach 508 route.
Medical cover includes Event Advanced Life Support medics and radio communications to marshals. An event village features inov-8 and Pete Bland Sports, local food traders, Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team and live music with prize giving. Results are published live online. Children's fun trails run on the day with free entry for competitors' children. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
