Lakeland Trails in Helvellyn
Lakeland Trails in Helvellyn takes place at Glenridding on the shores of Ullswater within the Lake District National Park. The event uses well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways that lead into the foothills of Helvellyn and offer elevated views of Ullswater and surrounding peaks.
Distances on offer include:
- 5 km Helvellyn Sport Trail
- 10 km Helvellyn Trail Run
- 15 km Helvellyn Trail Race and Trail Challenge
Courses run mainly on scenic trails with short sections of tarmac. Underfoot conditions are generally good for off road running but can be tricky in places. All courses are marshalled and volunteers provide signage and assistance. Event medics are in attendance and a communications team provides radio coverage for marshals.
Practical notes include on site registration and baggage storage in the main marquee. Parking is cash only at King George V Fields with a car park fee per vehicle and camper vans must use the main pay and display car park in the village. Glenridding is served by the Stagecoach 508 bus from Penrith and Windermere. Car sharing with four or more occupants qualifies for free parking.
Safety and kit guidance notes that dogs are not allowed on course, in ear headphones are prohibited though bone conductor devices are permitted, and participants may be asked to carry warm and waterproof clothing.
