Swirral Grind 850
The Swirral Grind is an uphill only race held from the events field at King George Playing Field in Patterdale. The route is designed in the style of a Vertical K and covers about 6 km of continuous ascent with approximately 850 m of climb.
The course follows steep, stepped paths to the feature known as the "Hole in the Wall", then runs across the flats of the Red Tarn Basin before a second ascent to the ridge-line of Swirral Edge. The final section includes easy scrambling to reach the summit trig point at 950 m. The route climbs Helvellyn, identified in the event information as the third highest mountain in the Lakes.
Entry includes a fully marked course and manned checkpoints, a recycled paper mache wild flower seed bomb medal, a professional Safety Officer and supporting safety team provided by Mountain Run, and event planning by an experienced team. The event takes place within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
