Kings Mountain Gateway Trail 5K and 10 Mile
The event features two trail races starting at the Trail Head on Quarry Road in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Both distances use a gun start and an RFID chip finish. The course moves from Quarry Road onto a 10 foot wide gravel trail.
Distances
- 5K: Gun start and RFID chip finish, mixed parking lot and gravel trail.
- 10 Mile: Gun start and RFID chip finish, out and back on Foote Trail with lake views.
The 5K follows the first gate on Quarry Road, runs through a parking lot into the trail, then follows a sequence of right turns onto Foote Trail, Plateau Trail loop, and a rail trail back to the finish to complete approximately 3.1 miles. The 10 Mile course is an out and back entirely on the Foote Trail, a gravel surface that skirts the perimeter of an inactive mine and crosses a private bridge over Interstate 85.
Packet pick up is available on the Friday before the race from 3pm to 6pm at the Trail Head and also on race morning starting at 7:30am at the same location. Water and an aid station are located at the 5K and 10 Mile turnaround, with water also provided at the finish.
Registration pricing is listed as $20 per race without a t-shirt and $25 per race with a t-shirt. Trophies are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each race. Age groups include U-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70-plus. Overall winners are not eligible for age group awards.
