Kangaroo Hoppet : event overview
The Kangaroo Hoppet is an annual cross country ski event held at Falls Creek on the third Saturday of August. The event brings together over 1000 skiers of various nationalities, ages and abilities on Falls Creek’s groomed trail network that extends into the Bogong High Plains within Australia’s Alpine National Park.
The festival includes multiple race distances and categories, with the 42 km Kangaroo Hoppet serving as the signature race and a member of the Worldloppet series. It attracts both elite competitors and recreational skiers seeking to complete the long-distance course. Additional race options include:
- 42 km Kangaroo Hoppet
- 21 km Australian Birkebeiner
- 7 km Joey Hoppet
Spectators can watch from the Falls Creek Nordic Bowl and observe activity at the start and finish areas. The event has adopted an environmental measure of not providing plastic cups at on-course drink stations; participants are required to carry their own drink bottle or hydration pack, with water and 32Gi available for refills at drink stations.
