30th Annual Jug Bay Run/Walk for Wildlife
The 30th Annual Jug Bay Run/Walk for Wildlife takes place on Saturday, November 7, 2026. It is a benefit race whose proceeds support conservation projects, research, and education in the Patuxent River watershed. Participation contributes directly to projects and research aimed at preserving the Patuxent River’s wildlife.
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s Patuxent River Park and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary together comprise over 3,500 acres along the banks of the Patuxent River. The river and its shores are home to a variety of wildlife.
The race route runs alongside the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Driving Tour of the M-NCPPC and Maryland DNR. The course is mostly flat and combines paved and dirt road sections that follow the river banks. Water stations are located along the racecourse. The 10K and 5K courses are USATF certified, and finish line and race results for those distances are officiated by Blue Cheetah Sports Timing. A 3K fun walk begins just after the 5K and 10K races.
