About the race
The Winter Georgetown 5K & Half is a road running event held on January 17, 2027, along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal path in Georgetown and at Fletcher’s Boathouse. The course for both distances follows an out-and-back route on a light gravel canal path with minimal elevation change. The half marathon begins and ends in Georgetown near the Potomac Boat Club; the 5k begins and ends at Fletcher’s Boathouse. The event offers a virtual race option.
Runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical Drifit event shirt, and chip timing. Live results are posted online and a QR code is available at the race for immediate access; final results with series points are posted the Monday after the race. Points scored at this event count toward the Year-Long 5k, Endurance, and Back of the Pack Series, and toward the Winter Series. The race benefits Negotiation Works, an organization that provides negotiation and self-advocacy skills training to participants from historically marginalized communities in metropolitan Washington, DC. Other practical details include packet pickup at the event, no on-site race registration, water stations placed along the courses with some stations supplying Gatorade, portable restrooms at Georgetown, indoor restrooms at Fletcher’s Boathouse, and no official bag check.
