John Muir Way Nocturnal Ultra Marathon
The John Muir Way Nocturnal Ultra Marathon takes place on 7th November 2026. The event uses a well marked off-road loop of 5 km that participants repeat as many times as they can within a six hour window. Runners compete as solo entrants or in relay teams of up to three.
The loop passes a tented base on each lap where runners can store kit, access food, and receive support. The event is held in the dark and features lighting, music, food provision, and occasional fire effects. Participants are advised to bring trail kit and a headtorch.
Volunteer marshals support the event across roles such as course checkpoints, registration, water stations, start and finish area, and course setup and takedown. Marshals receive a race memento and a donation to their club or charitable group.
The organisers publish a race briefing and route details. In extreme weather the race may be cancelled or rescheduled; entries will be transferred to a rescheduled date where possible. If a rescheduled date cannot be accommodated within a short timescale, entries will be rolled forward to the following year or a 75% refund may be issued in specified circumstances. Withdrawal and refund terms vary by timing: transfers or partial refunds are possible up to 14 days before the event, with no refunds within 14 days. The event is not responsible for travel or accommodation costs incurred if the event is cancelled. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
