Imogene Pass Run
Imogene Pass Run is an annual mountain road race that travels between Ouray and Telluride on a permit from the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forest. The event is described as an extremely difficult race for well prepared athletes and enforces strict cutoff times at key checkpoints and the finish.
Registration is by pre-registration only, limited to the first 1600 entrants. All participants must be at least 15 years old. Entries are non-transferable and non-refundable; no on-site registration is accepted. All entrants must present a valid picture ID that matches their registration information at check in.
The course crosses steep, rocky terrain where weather can change rapidly. Participants are responsible for their own safety and for any evacuation or medical costs. The race recommends carrying a jacket, gloves and hat and wearing polypropylene base layers; cotton is discouraged. Aid stations provide beverages, snacks and fruit, and mountain rescue and EMTs attempt to cover the course.
Event services include free bus transportation for participants and volunteers between Ouray and Telluride, gear transport from the Ouray start to Telluride, and timed split points at key checkpoints. The road used by the race is closed to vehicles while the event is in progress. The event also awards finish pins and shirts, age-group awards, and supports local youth running programs and scholarships totaling more than $25,000 per year while donating over $30,000 per year to local programs.
