Hurtwood 50k Trail Ultramarathon
The Hurtwood 50 km is a trail ultramarathon that starts from Dorking and follows the Greensand Way into the forested Surrey Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The route is a lollipop style course: an out-and-back with a roughly 5 mile loop off the Greensand Way before returning along the same main line.
Runners follow well marked trails through woodlands, ridgelines and valleys, passing over Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill and Pitch Hill. The course is fully signed and supported and includes aid stations at approximately 7, 13, 18 and 24 miles. Signs are reflective and the final hours of the event may be run in darkness, so a headtorch is commonly used.
The event has an overall cut off time of 7.30pm, giving about 10 hours to complete the course. Timing is electronic with live leaderboards. Event medics and a sweeper runner are provided, and all finishers receive a medal.
Entry is online only and places close at 1pm on Friday 4th December or when capacity is reached. A mandatory kit list applies to participation. Minimum age is 18 years and dogs are not permitted. The race qualifies towards the UTMB runner performance index. Optional race T shirts are available for purchase and a Trees not Tees tree-planting option is offered for an additional fee.
