HOWL Trail 2027

The HOWL Trail event on 29 May 2027 offers three point-to-point trail races that follow the final sections of the Heart of Wales Line. The route forms part of a 141-mile waymarked trail that runs from Llanelli, Powys to Craven Arms, Shropshire. The finish for all distances is at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, School Road, Craven Arms, SY7 9RS.

Each distance has a specified registration location. Registration locations given are Lakeside Cafe, Princes Ave, Llandrindod Wells (50 miles); Knucklas Community Centre, Glyndwr (26 miles); and St Marys Primary School, Bucknell (16 miles) where registration is expected to be. A baggage drop is provided at each registration point and baggage will be transported to the finish line.

Checkpoint arrangements differ by course. The 50-mile route includes two manned checkpoints at Llanbister Rd railway halt (15 miles) and Bucknell Primary School (19 miles). The 26-mile route has one manned checkpoint at Bucknell (8 miles). The 16-mile route has no manned checkpoints between Bucknell and Craven Arms.

Parking is available at the finish at the Discovery Centre and a £5 charge applies, with proceeds to the centre. There is no organised transport from the finish. Entries open 1 June 2026 and close 22 May 2027. Entry fees are £95 for 50 miles, £75 for 26 miles, and £55 for 16 miles. Organizer: Andali Events.
