Holme Moss Fell Race
Holme Moss Fell Race is an open fell race organised by Holmfirth Harriers with Race HQ and finish at Cartworth Moor Cricket Club, Holmfirth (HD9 2TU, grid ref 134067). The course covers 28.5 km (17.8 miles) with approximately 1,285 m (4,215 ft) of ascent across Pennine moorland. The route includes steep trackless moorland, rocky climbs, river crossings and several remote sections; navigation and local knowledge are important.
Entry is limited to 200 runners and the minimum age is 18. Entry fees are listed for FRA members and non-members, with higher fees for on-the-day entry. The race uses SI timing with live tracking points and offers food at the finish, a race map for a small mountain rescue donation, a memento for 2026 entrants, prizes and spot prizes. Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team provide safety cover and a raffle is organised to support their funds.
Runners must meet FRA safety requirements and carry specified kit for the entire race. Mandatory items include waterproof full body cover with taped seams and a hood, hat, gloves, a map suitable for the route, a compass able to take a bearing, a whistle, emergency food and a cup or personal water supply (about 500 ml recommended). GPS navigation is prohibited. Kit checks are conducted before the race and at the finish. Competitors should be capable of completing the course in about 5 hours 30 minutes; there are cut-off points on the route and marshals must be obeyed.
