Hawkshead
A trail running event based at Hawkshead Recreation Ground with routes on marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways through Lake District scenery. The course takes in views of Windermere and surrounding peaks including the Coniston Hills and the Langdales and crosses rolling Beatrix Potter countryside.
Distances offered include:
- 10K Trail Run
- 16K Trail Race and Trail Challenge
All routes include the mile long near vertical "Coffin Trail" climb. Underfoot conditions are generally good for off road running but some descents are steep and rocky. Runners may need to slow or walk on technical sections. Gates on the course may be closed so please close them after passing. Dogs are not permitted on the course or in the event venue.
Event HQ is at Hawkshead Recreation Ground; there is no vehicle access onto the Recreation Ground. Event parking fields are signposted and are a 7 to 8 minute walk (about 500 metres) from the venue and may be muddy. Parking is charged, with free parking offered for cars carrying four or more people. A park and ride may be used in adverse weather.
Race numbers are collected at the event marquee on race day and must be displayed horizontally for timing. Competitors should carry their own water and a reusable cup; there are two water stations on the 16K and one on the 10K, plus drinking water at the finish. Advanced Life Support medics provide medical cover. The event village includes retailers, local food stalls, PA commentary and toilet facilities. Children under 12 can take part in a free on the day Fun Trails with a finishers medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
