Hadrian's Wall Half Marathon
The Hadrian's Wall Half Marathon is the seventh edition of a trail event held in 2027 that runs through historic and scenic landscapes in Northumberland. The event starts at Housesteads Roman Fort and finishes at Tyne Green Country Park in Hexham.
Distance
- Half Marathon - 13.5 miles (walkers on Saturday 16th October, runners on Sunday 17th October)
- Marathon - 26.2 miles (Saturday 16th October)
The route follows the Hadrian's Wall Trail Path for about 6 miles from Housesteads, then descends to Newbrough, passes through woodland onto the Tyne Riverside Trail Path and finishes with roughly 5 flat miles into Hexham.
Logistics include an A-B format with a required shuttle bus to the start or personal drop-off; there is no return transport after the event. A bag drop is available at registration and all bags are transported to the finish. Starts are staggered in groups of 75 to 100 to protect the historic site and avoid congestion; start waves are allocated by estimated finishing time. Live chip timing is provided by Timing Up North. One well controlled dog per person is allowed and must remain on a lead.
All finishers receive an event T-shirt, a medal and a snack. Public car parking is available in Hexham. Nearby accommodation and places to eat and drink are listed by the organiser, including hotels and local pubs in Corbridge and Hexham.
