Gullane 8 hour Challenge
The Gullane 8 hour Challenge, organised by NU Limits Running Ltd for 27 February 2027, asks participants to complete as many 4.367 mile loops as possible within an eight hour time limit. The route combines sandy beach, rocky coastline, forest trail and grassy fields, with 367 ft of ascent per lap. An electronic wristband records the start and finish of each lap and provides a lap count and lap times. Tags must remain uncovered and runners should avoid congregating at the start area after finishing a lap to ensure accurate timing.
Lap distances are expressed as:
- 3 laps = Half Marathon
- 6 laps = Full Marathon
- 7+ laps = Ultra Marathon
Event basecamp offers kit storage including three 6 x 3 metre gazebos, and nearby car parking is available for a full day ticket priced at £3. Spectators are welcome at basecamp. The organiser does not accept liability for lost kit.
Mandatory kit includes a minimum 1500 ml of fluid with refills available, 60 to 90 g of carbohydrates per hour of running, appropriate clothing for weather conditions, dry clothes for after the event, and a mobile phone. After finishing, runners must check out at basecamp and hand in timing tags to finalise finish time and lap totals and to receive the finisher bag.
Volunteer roles include start and finish line staff, route marshalling and aid table support, event registration, and car park support. Volunteers are offered a free entry to a future NU Limits Running event. Refunds are available up to two months before the event. Transfers to another event within the same calendar year are permitted up to one month before the event, and participant place transfers are permitted up to one week before the event.
