Montane Grizedale Trail : Grizedale Forest Visitor Centre

The Montane Grizedale Trail is a pair of trail races based at Grizedale Forest Visitor Centre, near Hawkshead in the Lake District. The event offers two measured distances and uses forest tracks and sections of road around the Grizedale area.

  • 13 miles (Half Marathon) forest-track course; finishes at Grizedale Visitor Centre
  • 26 miles (Marathon) includes an eastern loop towards Windermere; food stations on route

The half marathon follows the first 13 miles of the marathon route. The route is described as undulating, with varied terrain and some road sections, and offers views towards Coniston and surrounding areas. The marathon continues beyond the visitor centre on an eastern loop.

Race rules include compulsory kit requirements and an age minimum of 16 years on race day. Trail 26 runners must pass Food Stop 2 (13 miles) within 3.5 hours of the start; the final course cut off for all distances is 7 hours 30 minutes from the start. Dogs are not permitted to run in the event but may attend the start and finish as supporters.

Entry fees are quoted with an early discounted rate for the first 100 entries: Half Marathon £39, Marathon £49; general entry rates are Half Marathon £42, Marathon £54. Entries close when the event is full or on the Friday prior to race day at midday.

Included with entry are a custom finisher’s medal, water at the half marathon finish, feedstations on the marathon route, electronic timing, and event photographs available to download for free. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
