Great Herts AONB Event

The Great Herts AONB on 6 June 2027 offers a marathon, half marathon and 10 km through the Hertfordshire Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Every distance is open to runners and cyclists; entrants choose running or riding when they enter and results and prizes are awarded separately for each discipline.

Distances include:

  • AONB Marathon : 42.2 km : Run/Ride : Ages 18+
  • AONB Half Marathon : 21.1 km : Run/Ride : Ages 16+
  • AONB 10 km : 10 km : Run/Ride : Ages 15+

The course is a point-to-point route through protected Hertfordshire countryside with off-road sections suitable for both running and gravel or mountain bikes. Shorter distances are subsets of the full marathon route. Feed stations are provided roughly every 8 km. Coach transfer back to the start is available for point-to-point finishers. The start is in the Gosmore area; the exact start venue, event parking and signage will be confirmed nearer the date.

Entry fees range from £22 for the 10 km to £48 for the marathon, with the same price whether running or riding. Online entries close Thursday 3 June 2027 at 11:59pm.

The event is multi-terrain trail and gravel; appropriate footwear or tyres are required. Riders must wear a helmet and no road bikes are permitted. Cut-off times apply on the marathon for both disciplines. Medals are given to every finisher; separate trophies go to the top three runners and top three riders per distance. Marathon and Half entrants receive a finisher t-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
